Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month

Charlotte Webber RVN and Kate Parsons RVN organised a fund raising event for Hounds for Heroes and Lassie Animal sanctuary in Malaysia: it was held last month.

As July was National Veterinary Nursing awareness month, the main purpose of the event was to promote and increase the public awareness of veterinary nursing as a profession. They did this by setting up a stall at Endcliffe Park in Sheffield and sold cakes, held competitions for various prizes (including a second hand Nintendo Wii in excellent condition!) and had lots of freebies for people who came to see them; they also talked about veterinary nursing and gave free nurse health checks. On the Sunday afternoon they organised an ‘owner’ walk, where dogs were invited to bring their owners for a walk through Endcliffe Park, which was free to join but donations to the charities were gratefully received. The ‘leader’ of this walk was a Raccoon we know called Oreo, and he brought his friend Biggles along too.

The event was a great success and they raised approx £300 for their chosen charities.
